It was a great week for the quarterback position in Week 12. At my count, 27 different quarterbacks finished with double-digit scoring. We had some games of 30-plus points from Matthew Stafford and Russell Wilson. Hopefully you started Stafford, unlike me who had him on the bench. Wilson took advantage of the Steelers secondary and scored almost all of his points through the air, quite unusual for the Seattle quarterback. Philip Rivers bounced back with a four touchdown and a 300-yard outing. Lastly, Ryan Fitzpatrick continued to surpass expectations with a four-touchdown game of his own.
Fantasy football rankings 2015: Quarterbacks, Week 13
The fantasy playoffs are just around the corner. Check out our Week 13 QB rankings to get an edge on your competition.
Injuries continue to pile up and we lost two more quarterbacks for the season in Week 12. Tony Romo went down on Thanksgiving and so did our hopes that he would be a fantasy sleeper down the stretch. Matt Cassel takes over as the Cowboys starter. His fantasy upside is very limited, despite the weapons he has to pass to. Josh McCown broke his collarbone on Monday night. The Browns' situation is complicated. Austin Davis came in and looked solid. Johnny Manziel seems to still be grounded. If Manziel got the call, he might be worth a spot start against San Francisco in Week 14.
Ben Roethlisberger suffered a concussion in Week 12. He's in the concussion protocol and it's unknown if he'll be available this week. Landry Jones would probably get the call to start if he can't go. The Steelers face Indianapolis and their poor secondary. Jones might be worth a shot, although Jameis Winston wasn't able to get anything going last week against them. Sam Bradford is questionable to start against New England this week. The Eagles have been a disaster with Mark Sanchez at quarterback, so Bradford would provide a little improvement. St. Louis is looking for Case Keenum to return from his concussion. Nick Foles played poorly again last week, so Keenum can't return fast enough.
My sleeper this week is Jay Cutler. He faces a San Francisco defense that is giving up just under 300 yards passing per game. The 49ers have played well at times but they're a completely different story on the road. With a healthy Matt Forte, an emerging Jeremy Langford plus the reliable Alshon Jeffery, Cutler is set up for a big game. I believe he'll pass for 295 yards and three touchdowns.
