Pete Carroll is about to participate in his second Super Bowl as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. He knows what it takes to make it to the pinnacle of the sport, and he isn't about to change the formula. According to NFL.com, Pete Carroll's message to his team Saturday night was simple: Play loose and have fun.
Pete Carroll tells Seahawks players to play loose and have fun
Yep, it’s the same message your seventh grade soccer coach gave you.

The speech fits with Carroll’s personality as a head coach. Though his schemes hardly reinvent the sport, Carroll resembles few other NFL head coaches by his demeanor. “Freewheeling” gets thrown out a lot. At USC, he was the type of guy to go boogie-boarding, or wander the streets of South Central Los Angeles on sleepless nights.
The Seahawks seem to feed off the “have fun” mantra. Perhaps no coach allows his players to be themselves to the extent that Carroll has, and the product of that individualism is perhaps the most tightly-knit team in the NFL.
A player told NFL.com’s Albert Breer that the speech was “same ‘ol Pete.” In this case, “same ‘ol” was a term of endearment. It has to be, when your team is one win away from its second straight Lombardi Trophy.
