The 140th running of the Preakness Stakes was won by the favorite American Pharoah, who at even odds staved off Tale of Verve and Divining Rod to win the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Tale of Verve had 25/1 odds to win the race, while Divining Rod was at 12/1.
It is the third career win in the Preakness Stakes for jockey Victor Espinoza, who also won in 2002 atop War Emblem and in 2014 with California Chrome. Just like in those years, Espinoza also won the Kentucky Derby.
This marks the sixth career Preakness win for trainer Bob Baffert, who has won in Baltimore in each of the four years he captured the Kentucky Derby -- Silver Charm in 1997, Real Quiet in 1998, War Emblem in 2002, and now American Pharoah.
The 2015 Preakness Stakes carries with it a minimum guaranteed purse of $1.5 million. Here are the individual betting payouts:
