American Pharoah is favored in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, but any 3-year-old in the 20-horse field could end up in the winner’s circle at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
Kentucky Derby 2015: Post time, TV schedule, contenders and more
The 2015 Triple Crown begins Saturday at Churchill Downs.
Post time for the Run for the Roses is 6:25 p.m. ET on NBC, and the best two minutes in sports could unfold with any horse in this year’s deep field on top. American Pharoah is favored because he seems like the safest bet (if there is such a thing), having proven himself far superior to all of his competition to date. He most recently won the Arkansas Derby by a commanding eight lengths.
But running against the field in the Kentucky Derby is another matter, especially when American Pharoah will be starting from the No. 18 post on the far outside. According to OddsShark.com, American Pharoah is favored with 13/5 odds.
A popular choice among pundits to challenge American Pharoah is Carpe Diem, the Blue Grass Stakes winner that seems poised to run well at the Derby’s 1¼-mile distance.
Carpe Diem is the third choice at 8/1 odds. The second choice is Dortmund at 15/4. Both American Pharoah and Dortmund are trained by Bob Baffert, who won his three Kentucky Derbies from 1997-2002 but none since.
The TV schedule for the 6:25 p.m. ET race is below.
Noon - 4 p.m.: Live coverage from Churchill Downs, NBCSN
4 p.m. - 7 p.m.: Live coverage from Churchill Downs, NBC
7 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.: Post-race coverage on NBCSN
