Louisville’s Gerald Christian named 2015 Mr. Irrelevant

For being the last pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, Gerald Christian earned the title of “Mr. Irrelevant” and a vacation to Newport Beach.

The 2015 NFL Draft came to a close Saturday when the Arizona Cardinals selected Louisville tight end Gerald Christian as the last pick of the seventh round, No. 256 overall. By being the last pick of the draft, Christian earned the somewhat dubious title of “Mr. Irrelevant.”

Though it may not seem like a particular achievement to be the last pick of the NFL Draft -- that is, beyond the honor of being named one of the best young football players in the country -- Mr. Irrelevant actually receives some pretty sweet perks. Christian and family will be treated to a week’s vacation in Newport Beach in an event founded by former USC receiver Paul Salata.

Christian is no slouch as a player. He caught 32 passes for 384 yards and five touchdowns last season, and has plenty of size at 6’3, 230 pounds. Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians likes to use his tight ends a lot, so Christian could become a depth chart fixture for some time.
