This may come as a surprise to many NFL fans, but Dez Bryant is considering doing something many folks would consider to be a bit drastic.

Bryant wants to sign a long-term contract extension prior to July 15 or he may choose to sit out when the Dallas Cowboys’ season kicks off.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Bryant may choose to sit out the Dallas Cowboys' season opener. That is, of course, unless he inks his name to a new, long-term contract by the middle of July. If he doesn't sign a contract before then, Bryant will be forced to either play under the franchise tag, guaranteeing him $12.823 million for the 2015 season, or he would have to choose to not play.
Bryant’s agent, Tom Condon, told ESPN he would not comment on the situation.
“Our goal is still to get something done on a long-term basis by the deadline,” Condon added.
Bryant, who will be entering his sixth NFL season in 2015, caught 88 passes for 1,350 yards and 16 touchdowns last year.
This offseason, Bryant has participated in once in OTAs and in individual drills. He is not required to attend next week’s mandatory minicamp because he is not technically contracted with the Cowboys until he signs a new deal or his franchise tag.
