Germany had a chance to take a lead against the United States on a penalty kick. They failed. The United States was given the same opportunity and Carli Lloyd capitalized by burying the shot to put the USA up 1-0 in the 69th minute.

The United States is out front in the semifinal.
The United States earned the penalty kick when Alex Morgan drew a foul. Whether it should have been a penalty could be debated as it appeared the foul occurred when Morgan was just outside of the box. The referee, however, immediately pointed to a spot in the box.
Lloyd capitalized with her third goal of this World Cup.
