Mayweather (48-0, 26 KO) says he’s retiring after this fight, and even if few believe him, that is the hook for the bout. It’s certainly not because anyone sees Berto (30-3, 23 KO) as a competitive opponent for the unbeaten pound-for-pound king, as Berto is a substantial underdog on the sports books even compared to past Mayweather opponents like Robert Guerrero or Victor Ortiz (both of whom beat Andre Berto to land their fight with Mayweather).
On the undercard, Badou Jack will face George Groves for the WBC super middleweight title, Rocky Martinez takes on Orlando Salido for the WBO super featherweight title in a rematch of their April 4 bout, and Jhonny Gonzalez meets Jonathan Oquendo in another super featherweight attraction.
