Cam Newton $8,900 (Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints)
Like so many teams that lost the Super Bowl the previous season, the 1-4 Panthers are reeling and could be in danger of missing the playoffs entirely if they can’t turn it around immediately. If ever Cam Newton was going to rip off his jersey to reveal that he is, in fact, Superman, the Superdome is a perfect place for it. The talk among DFS experts is that the Superdome has become the Coors Field of football, where stats get inflated because of the shootout nature of the games there. Back from concussion protocol, this is a perfect spot for Newton to regain his 2015 form and put up a monster game. His high price and recent struggles might depress his ownership, making him a tremendous tournament option.
Russell Wilson $8,400 (Seattle Seahawks vs. Atlanta Falcons)
Like Newton, Wilson has struggled thus far in 2016, hampered mainly by an ankle injury that has robbed him of his mobility. The Seahawks are coming off a bye week, which should have given Wilson enough time to really heal that ankle and get him back to his running ways. Wind could be an issue in Seattle on Sunday, which could make Wilson an even bigger running threat. He’s been a bit of a forgotten man in DFS and could be had at low ownership.
Andy Dalton $7,600 (Cincinnati Bengals at New England Patriots)
The Bengals might not like it, but they are probably going to be in a shootout this week in Part 2 of the Tom Brady Revenge Tour. There’s only so much Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard can do on the ground to keep the Patriots’ offense on the sidelines. Dalton and A.J. Green have been terrific so far in 2016 and Brandon LaFell (another Revenge Game!) is coming on as the No. 2 receiver in this offense. We don’t recommend Dalton very often, but this is a week where he as three-touchdown upside and a reduced price.
Marcus Mariota $7,600 (Tennessee Titans vs. Cleveland Browns)
There are a lot of things that the Browns struggle to do well. Two of those things in particular are defend opposing tight ends and stop running backs who catch passes. What are two things the Titans do really well? Get the ball to Delanie Walker and use DeMarco Murray as a pass catcher out of the backfield. But Walker and Murray don’t throw the ball to themselves. Mariota’s price is pretty high for a quarterback of his caliber, but the setup could hardly be better and he is coming off a solid game last week. No one will be on him, but if you pair him with Walker (and maybe Murray too in a heavy stack), you could have a unique lineup that really pays off.
Brian Hoyer $7,000 (Chicago Bears vs. Jacksonville Jaguars)
Hoyer’s price is finally starting to catch up to his production, but he remains a decent value considering how much the Bears are throwing the ball. With Cameron Meredith adding a new dimension to the passing game, Hoyer is capable of three-touchdowns every time he takes the field. Jacksonville is certainly a team that can be attacked through the air, so no reason to think the Hoyer train is slowing down this week.
NAY
Eli Manning $7,700 (New York Giants vs. Baltimore Ravens)
Whether it’s the coaching change, or the fall of Odell Beckham, or the commercial with his older brother, it’s just not happening for Eli this season. There have been a couple games already (Saints, Packers) where Manning was expected to put up big numbers and he fizzled. Now he faces a defense that doesn’t giving up passing yards that easily. Manning is priced like an elite QB, but the production just isn’t there. Fade him with confidence.
Kirk Cousins $7,400 (Washington vs. Philadelphia Eagles)
Cousins is another QB that wishes he could turn the clock back to 2015. His issues could be compounded this week by the absence of Jordan Reed, who is in concussion protocol. We’ve seen what the Eagles defense can do to opposing quarterbacks and this is not a spot to test that theory.
