The Green Bay Packers parted ways with former Kansas City Chiefs running back Knile Davis on Monday, two weeks after trading for him earlier in October.
Packers release RB Knile Davis 2 weeks after trading for him
The Packers gave up next to nothing to get Knile Davis and then cut ties after only two games.

Davis, 25, was acquired from the Chiefs for cheap, as the Packers sent only a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft for the running back. After his release, it’s likely that the conditions of the trade were voided and the Chiefs won’t get anything in return.
What’s puzzling is that the Packers made the move for Davis to fill a gap at running back that’s still a concern. In two games with Green Bay, Davis had just five carries for five yards and caught two passes for four yards.
Tuesday, the Jets picked up Davis:
And almost as fast as they had picked him up, the Jets released him:
But the Packers’ solution to several injuries at the running back position, including an ankle surgery for Eddie Lacy and a knee problem for James Starks, has been to not use running backs at all.
Wide receiver Ty Montgomery led the team in rushing in a 26-10 win over the Chicago Bears with 60 yards on nine attempts, and Aaron Rodgers led the team Sunday with 60 yards on six carries in a 33-32 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Both Montgomery and Randall Cobb, receivers who each have played a little running back for the Packers in a pinch, missed Week 8.
With Starks expected to be out a little while longer, it looks like the rushing duties will go to undrafted rookie Don Jackson who has six carries for 16 yards in the last two games. Or the Packers’ plan could be to just let Rodgers run. He and Lacy are the only two on the team with more than 100 rushing yards, after all.
