The Kansas City Chiefs are starting Nick Foles at quarterback in Week 9 while Alex Smith goes through the NFL concussion protocol. Head coach Andy Reid made the call Wednesday while also saying Smith is not displaying any concussion symptoms, according to Chiefs.com reporter BJ Kissel.
Fantasy impact of Alex Smith out vs. Jaguars in Week 9
The Chiefs are going with a new QB in Week 19 as Alex Smith recovers from his head injury.

Reid added that Smith is going through the “return to play protocol” and will practice this week while running the scout team, but will not be active in Week 10. Smith suffered not one, but two head injuries during the Chiefs’ Week 8 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
The team initially said Smith did not suffer a concussion, and Smith is also saying he did not have a concussion. As for Foles, he played very well in relief of Smith during Sunday’s win in Indy. He completed 16 off 22 passes for 223 yards and two scores.
Fantasy Impact: This is odd to say the least, but perhaps the Chiefs are just being ultra conservative with Smith to make sure he is good to go the rest of the season. Still, seeing him inactive right after Foles just had a great game is a bit concerning for Smith’s starting job.
It will be interesting to see how Foles does this week and if it could lead to Reid making a change here since Smith has not exactly been lighting the world on fire. He has just eight touchdown passes vs. two interceptions in seven games to go with one rushing score.
It would not be the first time Smith lost his job due to injury.
