After catching 11 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns in Week 5 against the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates has been somewhat non-existent during the team’s last two games (one catch for four yards).
Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 9: Sammie Coates could be a factor again
The Steelers may have their starting quarterback this week and that could bode well for the team’s young wide receiver. We explore the fantasy implications.

Part of his recent struggles were due to an injured finger, but the team is coming off a bye this week and the receiver should be close to 100 percent as he was not even on the Steelers’ injury report this week. Plus some quarterback named Ben Roethlisberger is expected to be back in the lineup for Pittsburgh on Sunday (he is apparently pretty good at throwing the ball).
Fantasy Impact: This weekend, the Steelers and Coates will be facing off with the rival Baltimore Ravens.
At first glance, the Ravens seem like they will be a tough matchup for the Pittsburgh pass catchers (sixth least pass yards allowed per game in 2016). But Baltimore is actually giving up the third most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers this season.
The Ravens have only allowed a player from the position group to gain 100 or more receiving yards twice in 2016, but they have also given up a total of 13 touchdowns to opposing wide receivers this season.
Yahoo! only projects Coates to catch three passes for 45 yards on Sunday. But combining the matchup the receiver has this weekend with the fact that his starting quarterback is expected to return, fantasy owners should at least consider Coates as a flex option in their lineups for Week 9.
