NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said Monday that as long as the Rams are eligible for the postseason, there will not be any kind of change at the quarterback position, “barring some sort of epic collapse by Case Keenum.”
Keenum has thrown 11 interceptions and just nine touchdowns this season. Fisher insists the quarterback isn’t the reason the Rams have dropped several games in a row, but Keenum’s mistakes have directly contributed to the losses.
It’s not just Keenum, really. The entire offense has struggled, and according to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche, that’s part of the reason the Rams are sticking with Keenum for now. Not only does the team believe Goff isn’t ready, but they also feel that the offense isn’t functioning well enough for the rookie to succeed.
The Rams are currently 3-5 after jumping out to a 3-1 start. They trail the Seahawks and the Cardinals in the NFC West, and they’re several wins away from a shot at a wild card playoff bid. Los Angeles still has to face Seattle and Arizona, as well as the Falcons and the Patriots, before the end of the season.
The Rams have not yet been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, but if the offense doesn’t improve, they will be soon.
