New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will be undergoing back surgery to repair a ruptured disk as first reported by SiriusXM’s Vic Carucci. The tight end is expected to be out of action for the Patriots for eight weeks.
Rob Gronkowski to undergo back surgery, fantasy season likely finished
The Patriots’ tight end needs an operation to fix an ailing back and is expected to miss two months. We explore the fantasy implications.

It has been an injury-filled season for Gronkowski in 2016. In eight games played this year, he only has 25 catches for 540 yards and three touchdowns.
Fantasy Impact: With the news of the tight end’s latest injury, his fantasy season is all but over. Barring a miraculous recovery, there is no reason for fantasy owners to hold out any hopes of Gronkowski returning to the field for the remainder of the 2016 season.
However, his injury should bode well for the production of fellow New England tight end Martellus Bennett for the remainder of the year. Bennett seems like a safe start for the Patriots’ final five games with there now being no worry of Gronkowski taking away any of his targets.
