Texas A&M’s junior defensive end Myles Garrett still hasn’t officially announced he will enter the 2017 NFL draft, but he’s already generating plenty of hype as the next top NFL pass rusher.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cleveland Browns have an “astronomical grade” on Garrett and are “enamored” with the pass rushing prospect. With the Browns at 0-12 and likely to nab the first pick in the 2017 NFL draft, Garrett is already at the top of mock drafts with Cleveland as the landing spot.
Garrett, 20, is a 6’5, 270-pound rusher who earned First-team All-American honors in each of the last two seasons. He posted huge numbers for the Aggies, racking up 11.5 sacks as a freshman, 12.5 as a sophomore and 8.5 as a junior, although he still has one more game to play.
Garrett is expected to finish his collegiate career in the 2016 Texas Bowl against Kansas State. It would be a surprise if Garrett doesn’t enter the 2017 NFL draft in his first year of eligibility as he has already begun talking about the possibility, telling Charlie Bernstein of Football Insiders that he hopes to be a top-three pick if he decides to become a professional.
The winless Browns need plenty of help to turn the franchise around, but an elite pass rusher could be a good start. Rookie second-round pick Emmanuel Ogbah leads the team in sacks through 12 games with just 3.5, and the team’s total of 17 sacks is the lowest in the NFL.
