With a knee injury knocking out New York Jets starting running back Matt Forte early in the team’s game against the San Francisco 49ers last week, the Jets turned to backup Bilal Powell to fill in for their injured starter. Luckily for New York, Powell helped the team forget that its starter was even missing as he had the game of his life in San Francisco.
Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 15: Don’t expect anything special from Matt Forte or Bilal Powell
The Jets running backs should not have a ton of success against the Dolphins on Saturday, no matter who gets the start. We explore the fantasy implications.
Against the 49ers last week, the Jets’ backup running back finished the game with 179 total yards and two touchdowns on 34 touches.
An MRI earlier this week revealed that Forte has a torn meniscus in his knee. He still hopes to play for the rest of the season, but his time on the field could be limited this weekend.
Fantasy Impact: No matter who gets a majority of the team’s carries in the backfield this week for New York, their day is not expected to be too easy against the Miami Dolphins.
Th Dolphins are only giving up the 14th-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing running backs in 2016, but they have not allowed a player from the position group to finish with more than 100 yards on the ground in the team’s last eight games.
Fantasy owners have every right to be worried about Forte’s injury and the impact it could have on Saturday. Powell seems like the safer start between the two, but keeping both on the bench may be a better idea for this week.
