Rams CB Trumaine Johnson gets away with vicious, late facemask on LeGarrette Blount

Trumaine Johnson yanked the facemask of the Patriots running back after the play.

Officials don’t catch every grab and hold that happens in an NFL game, but it’s pretty remarkable that Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson got away with yanking on the facemask of New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount for no reason.

Right in front of an official on the sideline, Johnson made a tackle and reached up to jerk Blount’s facemask toward the turf. No flag was thrown and no mention of the facemask tug was made on the FOX broadcast.

Frustration for the Rams defense isn’t too surprising considering the team’s 17-0 deficit at halftime. Blount has rushed for 70 yards — including a 43-yard touchdown that made Rams defenders look silly — and Tom Brady completed 17 of 22 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams offense, on the other hand, finished the first half with 25 total yards of offense.

Jeff Fisher has long been accused of leading a defense that takes cheap shots and plays dirty. This play won’t help his case.
