On Wednesday, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed the return of the highly anticipated fan-favorite Wiener Dog Races. Twelve very good dogs will go up against one another in the annual event Sunday night.
Seahawks will host Wiener Dog Races at halftime of ‘Sunday Night Football’
The highly anticipated fan favorite is back.
The immensely popular race will be bookended by some football game, so the Sunday Night Football crowd has pregame and postgame entertainment.
Here’s what Carroll had to say:
“At halftime, we’re having the Wiener Dog Races, in case you guys were wondering. I’m going to miss them but definitely report on that, okay? Because that’s a big deal. The place is going to go crazy. There are going to be a lot of dogs really low to the ground.”
Yes there will, Pete Carroll. What he means to say is that he’ll be watching from the locker room with his team. The camera angles are better, probably. Here are a couple of the very good dogs taking part in the race Sunday:
This six-year veteran is Maxx Throttle Howell. He’s 9.5 and likes to eat bananas and romaine lettuce. He also doesn’t seem too pleased to be taking this picture.
This is Maggie, and she’s also 9.5, but only has three years of experience. Her hobbies include dancing and ... uh, racing (we’re going to assume).
If you want to take a look at all of the other good dogs taking part in the race, you can find them here. The 2016 Wiener Dog Race for Rescue benefits Old Dog Haven, which provides over 250 dogs with a final refuge foster home, and will take place during the Sunday night game between the Seahawks and the Panthers.
Here’s video of the race at halftime.
It looks like number four might have pulled away from the pack late and won it, but really they are all winners, because they are all very good dogs.
