The Hawks held a listless Celtics squad to 72 points, taking what feels like a commanding 2-0 series lead. The Spurs blew out the Grizzlies by 26 to take a 2-0 lead, as well.

Spurs overpower Grizzlies to win Game 2

Soobum Im-USA TODAY SportsThe game was never in question. The Spurs closed out the first quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 22-11 lead, and even though the Grizzlies threatened to stay close, the Spurs’ superiority was always on display. The lead grew to 18 at one point in the second quarter and the Spurs led 49-35 at the half. The second half was an ugly one for the Grizzlies — the Spurs coasted to an easy 26-point win.
The Grizzlies will have a chance to make the series competitive in Memphis for Game 3 on Friday, but they’re currently hanging on by a thread.

Good luck successfully getting the ball in against that. Boban isn’t just a defender, he is a wall. Remember when Stan Van Gundy’s defensive strategy was to “form a f****** wall”? Well, Boban is that strategy in one person. He’s 7’3 with a reported 7’8 wingspan and 9’7 standing reach. Trying to do anything against him is like when you were a kid playing grown ups on your Nerf basketball hoop.
At least Barnes had a good laugh about it.

Harry the Hawk botches a stunt and pays for it

Harry the Hawk was doing alright, making his way across a rail in press row. Then the sections divided and he was left with a choice. Does he end the trick and hop down, or does he go for the jump across. He went for the jump across, and it ended so, so poorly. Here is a reverse angle.
Harry managed to recover. At least to the point of getting up and walking around. His performance on the T-shirt cannon, however, may have suffered significantly.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY SportsThe Hawks came out firing in Game 2 with Korver looking like the 2014-15 of himself, hitting shot after shot, and took a 24-3 lead to start the game. They went cold in the final five minutes of the first quarter, but still led 24-7 — the seven points was the fewest in a first quarter in NBA Playoff history. The Celtics didn’t completely fold in the second, but trailed 43-28 at the half.
Neither team could hit a shot all night — the Hawks were 39 percent from the field and the Celtics shot 31.8 percent — but the Hawks kept the Celtics from making one of their patented third quarter runs and led 61-46 after three. They held on in the fourth on their way to a 17-point win.

A Charlotte All-Star Game will sully the NBA brand

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY SportsIt was never a question of whether Adam Silver and the NBA were going to weigh in on the All-Star Game in Charlotte. As I’ve written elsewhere, the league has established itself as a progressive entity this season, an authority whose power stems in part from its benevolence. Whether this is a marketing ploy -- a counter to the generally grim climate that, Cam Newton aside, generally surrounds the NFL -- or a genuine conscience is almost beside the point. The NBA cares, or at least acts like it does, and many of us are more than willing to take that at face value.
Silver has acknowledged the situation with the HB2 legislation in North Carolina, but instead of taking a firm position or issuing any kind of ultimatum, he described it with the almost paradoxically fuzzy term: “problematic.” There’s been no official threat made to withdraw the game, even as companies like PayPal announced their own boycotts and Bruce Springsteen cancelled shows. Despite the NBA’s recent track record, Silver is carefully weighing his actions here. Until the NBA puts the onus on North Carolina to make HB2 go away, we’ll never know for sure how serious it is about its opposition to what is, in effect, anti-anti-discrimination legislation.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY SportsIncluding their win in Game 1 on Sunday, the San Antonio Spurs are 41-1 straight up and 24-18 against the spread at home this season. The league’s most dominant home team will look to continue that dominance on Tuesday in Game 2 against the Memphis Grizzlies.
San Antonio is an 18.5-point home favorite for Game 2 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Spurs were a 16.5-point favorite in Sunday’s series opener.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY SportsLosing Bradley will especially hurt when it comes to slowing down Jeff Teague. The Hawks point guard had a big Game 1, with 23 points and 12 assists, and not having Bradley around to help check Teague moving forward could wind up being the difference in the series.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY SportsMemphis was able to muck up the first half of Game 1, which had them down just two points with around three minutes left in the second quarter. But part of that was just San Antonio missing shots it normally makes, and once those shots started going down, it was a wrap.
