Exaggerator beat the favored Nyquist with a furious charge down the stretch, winning the 2016 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

It ends the Triple Crown hopes for Nyquist, who suffered his first loss in nine career races. Nyquist was at the front for most of the race, battling from the start with 35-1 underdog Uncle Lino. But with the Exaggerator push, Nyquist finished third.
Jockey Kent Desormeaux captured his third Preakness victory, along with Real Quiet in 1998 and Big Brown in 2008. His brother, trainer Keith Desormeaux, won his first Triple Crown race on Saturday.
The Preakness carries a guaranteed $1.5 million purse, with Exaggerator taking home $900,000 as the winner. Runner-up Cherry Wine won $300,000, Nyquist $165,000 for third place, Stradivari won $90,000 for finishing fourth, and Lani took home $45,000 for a fifth-place finish.
