The 2016 Preakness Stakes is the 13th race scheduled on a full day’s worth of action Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. The $1.5 million, 1-3/16-mile second jewel of the Triple Crown might be the feature everyone is tuning in for, but there’s plenty of good racing to be had before then.

Preakness pre-race coverage begins on NBCSN at 2:30 p.m. ET, and NBC takes over at 5 p.m. You can stream it online at NBC Sports Live Extra. The post time for the Preakness is approximately 6:45 p.m.
Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist is the 3-5 morning line favorite to win on what is sure to be a sloppy track. Derby runner-up Exaggerator should again give him a challenge after making a late run to finish just over a length behind at Churchill Downs.
With Lani the only other Derby contender joining them in Baltimore, there’s a fair amount of intrigue to be found in the other eight horses of the field. The lightly raced Stradivari has the field’s third-best odds at 8-1, but has never run in a graded race. Cherry Wine (20-1) is another popular pick thanks to experience in mud.
Maryland Sprint
Always Sunshine paid $5.80 on a $2 bet after winning the Grade III Maryland Sprint. Allstar Red and Rockin On Bye followed at second and third in the six furlong, $100,000 race. Salutos Amigos, who was the prohibitive favorite at 1-1 odds, failed to finish in the top four.
Gallorrette Handicap
Mizz Money paid $11.80 for those who decided to pick her for the win in the Grade III Gallorrette Handicap. Vielsalm finished second and Heath was third in the turf race. Tiger Ride, who went in with 7-2 odds, finished fifth in the $150,000, 1-1/16-mile race and Josdesanimaux (4-1) finished eighth.
Chick Lang
Justin Squared stayed undefeated, winning his third race in as many tries with a victory in the $100,000 Chick Lang Stakes. The 4-5 pre-race favorite paid $3.60 to win.
The Very One
Despite falling behind early, Lady Shipman took charge down the stretch to win The Very One by 2¼ lengths. The 2-5 favorite paid $2.80 to win.
Sir Barton
The $100,000, 1-1/16 mile Sir Barton Stakes found odds favorite American Freedom earning the win and paying out $4.60. Voluntario finished second in the race while Dazzling Gem crossed the finish in third.
Dixie Stakes
Takeover Target charged hard from the outside to capture the highlight of the undercard, the $300,000, Grade II Dixie Stakes, a 1-1/16 mile turf race. Takeover Target paid $9.00 to win, beating pre-race favorites Ring Weekend (9-2) and Grand Arch (4-1).
