This year's Belmont Stakes may not have the same hype as the previous two editions with the Triple Crown on the line, but it's still one of the big three horse races of the season. The last race, the Preakness, was a muddy mess from rain and storms and Belmont could also see some showers and storms in the afternoon.
Belmont Stakes 2016 weather forecast: Possible showers and strong storms
Belmont Stakes weather could more resemble the wet weather of the Preakness than the dry weather of the Derby. There is also a threat of strong to severe storms.
There is also a concern Saturday afternoon that some of the storms that form could be strong to severe with strong gusty damaging winds and of course lightning. When you have any outdoor event safety of fans and the horses becomes a concern.
SATURDAY - BELMONT STAKES WEATHER FORECAST:
Temperatures will be in the 70s for the Belmont Stakes and as we go into the afternoon we have an increasing chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms could have strong, gusty damaging winds; small hail and lightning. There is a risk of some of these storms being severe, posing a potential safety concern for spectators.
