Blackhawks forward Andrew Ladd signs with Islanders on massive 7-year deal

The former captain of the Jets is going to New York.

The Andrew Ladd experiment is officially over in Chicago. The left winger has signed with the New York Islanders on a seven-year deal, according to Andy Strickland of Fox Sports. Elliotte Friedman first reported the move before it became official at noon.

The full figures aren’t known yet, but Strickland reports that $5.5 million will count against the Islanders’ salary cap.

Ladd was brought to the Blackhawks at the trade deadline to bolster Chicago’s scoring touch. Even though the few months in Chicago did not work out, Ladd has moved on to a team on the rise in the Islanders, who have reportedly let go of Kyle Okposo.

The forward’s numbers last season were down — 25 goals and 21 assists in 78 games — thanks to the trade, but Ladd has put up 466 points in 769 games.

Ladd is a solid offensive addition to the Islanders, who will have to replace not just Okposo but Frans Nielsen, who has “moved on” from the Islanders.

Ladd will most likely receive top-line minutes alongside captain John Tavares, a position the winger had the most success at during his time in Winnipeg.
