Unsafe conditions brought on by high winds have forced Olympic officials to postpone Wednesday’s rowing events in Guanabara Bay. It is the second time in four days races have had to been rescheduled.
Heavy winds force another day of postponed rowing events in Rio
The weather won’t cooperate with Olympic rowing, and now organizers have to scramble to catch up.

The announcement went out at 8:09 a.m. local time. There’s no word yet on when Wednesday’s events will take place. There were 22 races on the day’s schedule, including the finals of both men’s and women’s fours.
Heavy winds wrought havoc on boats and rowers on Saturday as well, capsizing the Serbian double scull team and depositing them into Rio de Janeiro’s oft-maligned water. On Sunday, cameras caught the Great Britain team dumping several gallons of water out of their boat after a practice run before the day’s races were abandoned.
Olympic rowing had been originally scheduled to run through Saturday, Aug. 13. With eight extra days before the closing ceremony on Aug. 21, there should be several opportunities to find a day where the weather cooperates for the upcoming medal races.
