Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece has won the gold medal in the men’s still rings final. Arthur Zanetti of Brazil came in second, winning silver, and the bronze medal was awarded to Denis Ablyazin of Russia.

It was a big win for Greece as Petrounias takes home the gold after a nearly flawless performance.
The preliminaries for this event featured close finishes for first, second and third places, with China’s Liu Yang taking the top spot with a score of 15.900. Petrounias placed second, scoring 15.833, and right behind Petrounias was China’s You Hao with a score of 15.800.
Petrounias is the reigning world champion on rings, and he’s one of the strongest technicians in the world in this event. His routine in the finals was nearly flawless, earning him a score of 16.000.
The reigning Olympic champion in this event from the 2012 Games in London, Arthur Zanetti of Brazil, had the advantage of competing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Zanetti placed fourth in the qualifier with a score of 15.533. He excelled in the finals, scoring a 15.766.
Team USA had three athletes compete in the preliminaries. Sam Mikulak scored a 14.533, Jacob Dalton had a 14.900, and the highest score for the Americans came from Alexander Naddour, who scored a 15.000. None of the Americans qualified for the finals.
Liu Yang and You Hao were both members of the Chinese team that won bronze in the team all-around competition in Rio. China had the second-highest score, 45.233, in the men’s team all-around, finishing just behind Russia’s 45.432.
