San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is still looking to practice for the first time this training camp. On Monday, head coach Chip Kelly said that Kaepernick is “day-to-day” with arm fatigue. He did not appear in the 49ers’ preseason opener Sunday.
Colin Kaepernick’s injury makes Blaine Gabbert a low-reward fantasy starter
Colin Kaepernick still isn’t practicing as he recovers from a shoulder injury. We break down the fantasy implications.

Kaepernick’s 2015 season ended early when he suffered an injury to his non-throwing shoulder. In the meantime, Blaine Gabbert has taken the starting quarterback spot. Once one of the most promising quarterback talents in the league, Kaepernick faces an uphill climb to get his career back on track this season.
Fantasy impact: Gabbert was pretty uninspiring in his preseason debut and won’t be a serious fantasy option. On paper, Kaepernick has the talent to overtake Gabbert as the starter, but he has to get healthy and get integrated in Kelly’s system first. The 49ers offense looks to be a fantasy sinkhole this season unless Kaepernick can rediscover his 2013 form. For now, downgrade Torrey Smith and Bruce Ellington on your draft cheat sheets.
