The men’s and women’s beach volleyball semifinals kick off Tuesday at 3 p.m. Eastern, and Team USA’s women are still in the hunt for a gold medal.

Team USA’s duo of Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross has dominated the competition throughout these Games. Walsh Jennings and Ross came into Rio seeded third, but they went undefeated through pool play. They first faced off against the Australian team of Nicole Laird and Mariafe Artacho, taking them down in two straight sets. They got off to a slower start against the Chinese duo of Wang Fan and Yue Yuan, but still emerged victorious, again winning in two sets.

Next up was Switzerland’s Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Vergé-Dépré, and Walsh Jennings and Ross dispatched them in three sets. The United States duo dropped the second set to the Swiss, but rebounded in the third set to lock up the victory. In their first match in the Round of 16 elimination tournament, Walsh Jennings and Ross defeated the Italian team of Marta Menegatti and Laura Giombini in straight sets with scores of 21-10 and 21-16. The win advanced the Americans to the quarterfinals.

Team USA’s next test was Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy of Australia, and Walsh Jennings and Ross beat them in straight sets to advance to the semifinals. The win preserves Walsh Jennings’ remarkable undefeated streak in the Olympics.

Tuesday’s match is the next obstacle between Walsh Jennings and her fourth Olympic gold medal. If Walsh Jennings and Ross manage to win gold, it will be the first gold medal for Ross, who won silver in the London games, falling to Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor.

The United States men’s duo of Phil Dalhausser and Nicholas Lucena narrowly missed a shot at the semifinals, falling to Brazil’s Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt in quarterfinal action Monday.
