San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Bruce Ellington is currently sitting out of practice with an ankle injury. Ellington missed Wednesday’s session and a Tuesday walk through with a sprained ankle, and he’s unlikely to play in the team’s second preseason game against the Denver Broncos.
Bruce Ellington not practicing, remains risky fantasy sleeper
The 49ers have big expectations for Ellington, but he’s dealing with an ankle injury this week. We break down the fantasy implications.

The 49ers have high hopes for Ellington in his third season, but health and consistency have eluded him so far. The 2014 fourth-round pick played in just 13 games last season, recording 13 catches for 153 yards. He also accumulated 665 yards on kickoff returns.
Fantasy impact: Ellington has been talked up as a fantasy sleeper, with expectations that he’ll soak up targets out of the slot position. However, he has to stay healthy first and missing preseason reps could hurt his integration into Chip Kelly’s offense. In addition, it’s doubtful that Blaine Gabbert will be able to sustain fantasy-relevant receivers this season. Ellington has WR3 upside if everything goes right, but at this point he’s just a late-round lottery ticket in PPR drafts.
