The women’s javelin finals were held Thursday evening in Olympic Stadium. Sara Kolak of Croatia came away with the gold, with Sunette Viljoen of South Africa winning silver and Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic taking the bronze medal.

Kolak won gold in the javelin, followed by Sunette Viljoen of South Africa with silver and Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic with the bronze.


In the preliminaries, any throw longer than 63 meters automatically qualifies. Maria Andrejczyk of Poland set the high mark in the field with a throw of 67.11 meters, setting a national record. Sara Kolak of Croatia also automatically qualified with a national record of 64.30 meters, as did Lyu Huihui of China with a throw of 63.28. Tatsiana Khaladovich of Belarus and Sunette Viljoen of South Africa both qualified on their first throws, which went 63.78 meters and 63.54 meters, respectively.
Linda Stahl of Germany automatically qualified at 63.95 meters, as did Madara Palameika of Latvia with a throw of 63.03 meters. Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic also automatically qualified with the second-best throw of the preliminaries, 64.65 meters. Kara Winger of the United States just missed qualifying at 61.02 meters.
