Ryan Fitzpatrick inked his one-year deal less than a month ago but has failed thus far in the preseason to prove that he was worth the contract. In a 22-18 Week 2 preseason loss against Washington, Fitzpatrick was able to complete only 4 of 9 passes for 35 yards and no touchdowns. This compounds his lackluster performance in Week 1, when Fitzpatrick failed to impress as well.
Ryan Fitzpatrick struggles in preseason Week 2, but fantasy value may be unharmed
The Jets starting QB fails to show last year’s magic in the preseason. We break down the fantasy implications.

While Fitzpatrick has struggled this preseason, he has been in the league for over a decade. As such, preseason indications should be taken less seriously for a player with such extensive experience. In addition, Fitzpatrick’s main competition for the starting QB spot, Geno Smith, failed to leave a positive impression. Smith was able to throw for only 6 of 13 passes for 47 yards and an interception, and it would appear that Fitzpatrick is more than secure in his position as starter.
Fantasy Impact: Fitzpatrick has the elite weapons of Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker at his disposal, as well as the luxury of an under-performing backup unable to challenge him for the starting position. While Fitzpatrick’s preseason has been lackluster, there is too much talent surrounding him on offense to believe that he will be a dud in the regular season. Barring injury, Fitzpatrick remains a high-end QB2 with the potential of a QB1 depending on the matchup.
