Team USA’s women’s 4x100m relay team had to overcome more than the disqualification in the preliminaries, which they challenged and had overturned, punching a ticket to the finals to win gold. Before the finals began, English Gardner, who ran the third leg of the relay, realized she only had one shoe in her bag.
English Gardner was missing a shoe before the 4x100m final, and Allyson Felix saved the day
Felix had an extra pair of spikes for Gardner to wear en route to the gold medal in the 4x100m final.

Thankfully, Allyson Felix saved the day with an extra pair of spikes.
Felix, a seasoned veteran and the first woman to earn five gold medals in track and field, just happened to have an extra pair of spikes in her bag and gave them to Gardner.
The shoes were custom made for Felix, and Gardner told the Today Show that they were just a bit too big, but that it was “nothing that double socks couldn’t fix.” Felix told Gardner she can keep the spikes, which will be a nice memento of Team USA’s big win.
The American women won gold in the 4x100m relay, finishing in 41.01 seconds. Jamaica won silver with a time of 41.36, and Great Britain took the bronze in 41.77.
