The Cincinnati Bengals were looking for wide receiver help after losing Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu to free agency this offseason. They seemed to have found it in the draft, selecting Pittsburgh’s Tyler Boyd in the second round, but it appears that the Bengals are bringing Boyd along slowly.
Tyler Boyd working as No. 3 WR and has chance of returning decent fantasy value
The Bengals aren’t pushing Boyd into a starting role yet, but he figures to play a prominent role into his rookie year. We break down the fantasy implications.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Boyd is currently expected to work as the Bengals’ No. 3 receiver, behind A.J. Green and Brandon LaFell. LaFell missed part of training camp with a torn ligament in his hand, but he returned to practice Sunday and is on track for Week 1.
Fantasy impact: It’s hard to really project Boyd’s playing time this early in the season, but his big-play ability was put on display in the preseason, turning three catches into 78 yards and a touchdown in two games.
With Tyler Eifert out for the foreseeable future, Boyd figures to see a lot of playing time in three-receiver sets. His targets may be limited throughout his rookie year, but Boyd is an intriguing lottery ticket in the later rounds of fantasy drafts. He has WR3 upside if he manages to beat out LaFell at any point this season.
