The acclimation of Coby Fleener into the New Orleans Saints’ offense is still a work in progress. Head coach Sean Payton said Monday that Fleener’s adjustment to a new offense was “an ongoing progression,” according to Josh Katzenstein of NOLA.com.

Payton added that Fleener needs to be more detailed in learning the Saints’ system. Fleener himself admitted he was a “work in progress” in this offense.
This should not be a surprise for Fleener after he spent the last four years with the Indianapolis Colts. Getting used to that offense wasn’t nearly as hard with his college quarterback, Andrew Luck, being there.
Now that Fleener is in New Orleans, he has to learn a new offense while getting in sync with a different full-time quarterback for the first time. That also helps explain Fleener having caught just three passes for 23 yards in two preseason games so far.
Fantasy Spin: While you cannot put too much stock into Fleener’s early struggles to learn the offense, those could lead to some early-season struggles and fantasy duds. His current ADP that puts him in the top-80 range already a tad high, especially with Josh Hill still there.
This latest news makes that feel even more true, but Fleener is still a great player to target as the sixth or seventh tight end drafted in your league. His upside in this offense is too much to pass on at that point.
