Week 3 of the preseason is normally the point at which NFL teams have named a starting quarterback. However, the San Francisco 49ers may wait longer in order to give Colin Kaepernick more time to make his case for the job.
Colin Kaepernick should face Packers, fantasy value still low
We break down the fantasy football implications of the 49ers making sure Colin Kaepernick gets a fair shot at the starting quarterback job.

Offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins said Tuesday that Kaepernick would be given a fair shot at winning the job, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. Maiocco also writes that the 49ers expect Kaepernick to play in Friday’s preseason matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
Modkins does not want to name a starter until Kaepernick is healthy and has shown what he’s fully capable of in head coach Chip Kelly’s offense. A “dead arm” has cost Kaepernick most of training camp and the preseason thus far, allowing Blaine Gabbert to strengthen his hold on the job.
Kaepernick is now healthy and fully practicing. He could make a strong case for the job with a big game against the Packers.
Fantasy Spin: This is good news for Kaepernick, who is easily the best quarterback in terms of fantasy impact over Gabbert. However, Kaepernick has missed too much time to think he’ll actually win the job over Gabbert.
As it stands, neither of these quarterbacks have any real value outside of deeper leagues with 16-plus teams.
