Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is dealing with a lingering knee injury and sat out practice on Thursday. Head coach Bruce Arians wouldn’t commit to Fitzgerald’s status for Sunday’s third preseason game, simply telling reporters “we’ll see” when asked.
Larry Fitzgerald misses another practice, fantasy value slipping
A knee injury is keeping the veteran out of practice this week. We look at the fantasy implications.
Fitzgerald suffered an MCL sprain that’s kept him in and out of practice for about a week or so, forcing him to miss the second preseason game. There’s little doubt that he’ll be ready for the regular season, but the Cardinals are being cautious with their star veteran.
Fantasy impact: Fitzgerald had something of a renaissance last season, catching over 100 passes for the first time since 2007 and clearing 1,000 yards for the first time 2011. However, he turns 33 on Aug. 31 and has been spending his later years playing a reduced role in the slot. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have emerging new blood in Michael Floyd and John Brown ready to eat up targets, to say nothing of David Johnson’s contributions in the passing game.
The future Hall of Famer still has a role in Arizona’s offense, but Fitzgerald’s WR1 days are likely behind him. Fantasy owners should avoid overdrafting him on name recognition.
