In what was more of a formality than anything, the Denver Broncos confirmed on Monday that Trevor Siemian will be the starting quarterback for Week 1.
Trevor Siemian wins Broncos’ starting job, carries low fantasy ceiling
Siemian won out the three-man battle over Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch. We break down the fantasy implications.

Siemian managed to beat out Mark Sanchez and first-round rookie Paxton Lynch for the job after a preseason performance that was unspectacular but competent enough to win the job. Siemian sealed the deal in the third preseason game, completing 10 of 17 passes for 122 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Los Angeles Rams.
Fantasy impact: It’s been quite the ride for Siemian, who was an afterthought last season as a seventh-round pick out of Northwestern. Now he’s tasked with leading the defending Super Bowl champions in the post-Peyton Manning era.
Siemian has the weapons in place with Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, along with a running game led by C.J. Anderson. However, he’s such a blank slate at this point that it’s hard to recommend him as a serious fantasy option outside of deep, two-QB leagues.
The Broncos open up the regular season with a Super Bowl rematch against the Carolina Panthers, so we could find out quickly if Siemian is up to the task. For now, fantasy players should just be monitoring him on the waiver wire, rather than investing a roster spot in him.
