New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton revealed on Tuesday that he plans to play the team’s starters, including quarterback Drew Brees, in Thursday’s preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens, according to NOLA.com’s Larry Holder.
Drew Brees will play on Thursday, top fantasy QB option for 2016
The Saints’ veteran quarterback will start during the team’s preseason finale on Thursday. We explore the fantasy implications.
It is hard to imagine Brees playing in more than a series or two for the Saints on Thursday as the team’s 2016 season would be in shambles if he were to suffer any sort of serious injury. Given that Brees has not played in a Week 4 preseason game since 2006, Payton’s concern for New Orleans heading into the regular season must be higher than normal.
Fantasy impact: For 2016, Brees still remains a top quarterback option for fantasy owners. In 10 years with the Saints he has missed only two games and he has not thrown for less than 32 touchdowns in a season since 2007.
His current ADP has him lasting until the fifth round, but it would not come as a surprise if some fantasy owners decided to snag him in a round or two earlier of their draft.
Brees is not going to get many fantasy points with his legs, but his consistency and reliability are what have kept him as a top fantasy quarterback for the past decade.
