The Detroit Lions will reportedly place tight end Brandon Pettigrew on the team’s PUP list, according to the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett on Tuesday.
Brandon Pettigrew headed to PUP list, fantasy value pretty much underground
The Lions’ veteran tight end will miss the first six weeks of the 2016 regular season. We explore the fantasy implications.

The news means that the Lions will be without their veteran tight end for the first six weeks of the 2016 season. With fellow tight end Eric Ebron already dealing with an injury, Pettigrew’s injury means the team will have to look elsewhere for depth at the position to begin the year.
Fantasy impact: Once Detroit’s top tight end option, Pettigrew’s role on the team has been taken over by the young Ebron. Coming off a season where he missed eight games and only caught seven passes, fantasy owners should be scolded for even considering using a draft pick on Pettigrew in 2016.
After catching 83 passes for 777 yards and five touchdowns in 2011, his ADP had him in the seventh round heading into the following season. But the Lions’ tight end has not been a legitimate option for fantasy owners since 2013.
Having caught only 17 passes in the past two seasons, drafting Tim Tebow would be likely a better option right now for fantasy owners than wasting a selection on Pettigrew.
