No matter what metric you use to measure Gary Barnidge’s 2015 season, he was an indisputable fantasy star. However, after putting up zero points in Week 1 of the 2016 season, many owners were questioning if he was even worth starting. After Week 1 it was announced that Robert Griffin III was once again out of commission due to injury, and in my opinion this was the best possible thing to happen to Barnidge’s fantasy value.

Last year, Barnidge averaged 12.3 fantasy points per game and 14.5 yards per catch with Josh McCown under center. He was the best tight end in the league fantasy-wise when McCown was throwing him the ball. Barnidge also has a favorable matchup this week, against a Baltimore Ravens defense that typically defended the pass much worse than the run in 2015.
Fantasy Impact: Barnidge struggled in Week 1, but the quarterback that brought him so much success in 2015 returns this week. While Yahoo! projects Barnidge as the ninth-ranked tight end in terms of fantasy projections, his ceiling with McCown is much higher. Between a beatable defense and the reunion of the most productive fantasy tight end/quarterback duo of 2015, Barnidge is poised for a return to form in Week 2.
