Fantasy football advice, Week 2: who to start for Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

Start’em

Welcome back, Jordy Nelson. In his first game back in action, and even at a self-proclaimed state of less than 100 percent, Nelson found the end zone and played in 54-of-64 offensive snaps. Though his yardage total was a conservative 34 yards, he is back in the equation as a top target for an offense with big potential. Consider him a WR2 with upside, even in a tough matchup.

While the Vikings’ fabulous defense can lower the Packers’ ceiling significantly, Nelson, Aaron Rodgers and Randall Cobb are all worthy of starts on Sunday night.

Start ‘em?

Eddie Lacy looked un-horrible in Week 1, which isn’t a compliment, but it is leaps and bounds ahead of the level he played at in 2015. He totaled 78 yards and took James Starks mostly out of the game plan. If this continues, Lacy is a sturdy RB2 in standard formats, but has a low floor against Mike Zimmer’s defense.

Sit ‘em

Richard Rodgers and Jared Cook take each other out of fantasy consideration due to sharing snaps, and Starks will need a Lacy injury before assuming fantasy relevance.

Start ‘em

Stefon Diggs asserted himself as the top option in the Vikings’ passing game, and could benefit with cornerback Sam Shields listed as doubtful. Diggs remains a solid WR2/WR3, but could have a lower floor with either of Shaun Hill or Sam Bradford under center.

Start ‘em?

Fantasy owners with Adrian Peterson likely have no choice but to start him due to the high investment they made in drafting him. Peterson and the Vikings’ offensive line looked abysmal against Jurrell Casey and company, and should get used to defenses daring them to throw. Peterson is a volume-dependent RB2/flex until he dispels concerns about his arriving decline.

Sit ‘em

Charles Johnson, Kyle Rudolph, and whichever quarterback gets the start aren’t worth fantasy consideration. First-round pick Laquon Treadwell is healthy, but did not take a snap in Week 1.
