Despite being the listed starter on the depth chart and putting up more than 1,000 rushing and 500 receiving yards in 2015, Devonta Freeman is not expected to put up similar numbers in 2016 due to the split time with Tevin Coleman. During their Week 1 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, both Freeman and Coleman touched the football 15 times or fewer. This lack of consistent touches forced each back to struggle to find a rhythm on the ground.
Fantasy Implications: After a stellar 2015 season, fantasy owners were pushing to select Devonta Freeman high in drafts. As the 2016 regular season has begun, those same owners are growing increasingly nervous about their selection. After being the breakout star on 2015 for the Atlanta Falcons, this year may not live up to expectations. Freeman is slated to split time in the backfield with Tevin Coleman.
For fantasy owners, they need to hope for big plays to be made as each player sees equal opportunities early this regular season. Both players are a solid option for the RB2 or Flex positions.
