Fantasy football rankings, Week 3: Quarterbacks

What has happened to Aaron Rodgers? His struggles in 2015 were blamed on the injury to Jordy Nelson. Nelson has returned to the offense but Rodgers hasn’t regained his fantasy mojo. In Week 1, he had a pretty good game but not what’s expected of a top-five fantasy quarterback. This last game against the Vikings was a disaster. He was sacked five times, fumbled three times and threw an interception. Rodgers seems to have lost the killer instinct that carried him to fantasy stardom. This Sunday provides a great opportunity to flip the switch. He faces Detroit at home and the friendly confines of Lambeau should help him bounce back.

Injury concerns have taken their toll on fantasy quarterbacks in Week 2. Jimmy Garoppolo has an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder. As usual, the Patriots are not releasing much about the situation and downplaying the seriousness. It wouldn’t surprise anybody to see him sit out this short week and maybe even the next. Jacoby Brissett should get the call and probably won’t be called on to do much. Josh McCown has an AC sprain injury as well. He’s already been declared out for Week 3. Cody Kessler will get his first start. McCown may be held out for 3-plus weeks. The situation in Cleveland just keeps getting darker and darker.

Andy Dalton was limping following the loss to Pittsburgh. It’s most likely a minor issue but keep an eye on his practice participation. Jay Cutler injured his thumb on Monday night, the same thumb he fractured in 2011 and caused him to miss the last six games of the season. If he misses some serious time, Brian Hoyer would get the starts. There are some really good receiving weapons in Chicago but Hoyer wouldn’t warrant a fantasy pick up.

My sleeper this week is Kessler. Cleveland didn’t plan on Kessler being the starter this early in the season. He faces a stiff Miami defense but should be able use what Cleveland has to move the chains. I think he’ll pass for around 280 yards and a touchdown in his debut. Not superstar numbers but enough to provide some real hope for the future.
