The third week of the 2016 regular season is just about coming to a close, with only the Monday Night Football game remaining. Most fantasy football leagues will run their waiver wire late Tuesday or early Wednesday, but we are here to help you get a jump on the best options to consider.
We will be ranking the top five players likely to be available in your league at each of the four major positions. Some weeks there might not be five good options available, but we’ll scour for the best we can find. Additionally, throughout the week, we will update each of these articles as ownership percentages change (via Yahoo!) and news arrives.
Waiver wire quarterback rankings, Week 4
1. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (44 percent owned) - now 54 percent owned
Week 3 only showed more positive signs for the rookie quarterback, as Prescott shined in prime time. The Dallas quarterback threw for 248 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 36 yards and another touchdown on the ground. He threw his first touchdown pass in Week 3, and once again protected the ball. Prescott would make an excellent bye week fill-in for any team.
2. Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins (44 percent owned) - remains 44 percent owned
Tannehill got off to a rocky start in Week 3 against what most believed to be a very exploitable defense. The Miami quarterback was once again able to bounce back and provided fantasy owners with decent production. Tannehill passed for 314 yards and three touchdowns but also threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. The lack of ball security is concerning, but even with the turnovers Tannehill is still producing fantasy points. He faces a tough matchup against the Bengals secondary in Week 4, but another quarterback on this list has shown that they can be beat.
3. Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens (29 percent owned) - now 30 percent owned
Flacco’s production was limited in Week 3, as this matchup against the Jaguars became a much more defensively focused game than initially predicted. Flacco managed to pass for 214 yards with two interceptions and rushed for 12 yards, including his lone score. The Jaguars defense was able to both rush Flacco and cover his receivers quite effectively. However, the Ravens face a much softer pass defense in the Raiders in Week 4. The Baltimore quarterback looks to have a very good opportunity to get back on track.
4. Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles (19 percent owned) - now 31 percent owned
Many believed that Wentz was simply the beneficiary of a soft slate of opponents in Week 1 and 2. However, he showed in Week 3 against the Steelers that he is more than a flash in the pan. The Eagles quarterback thew for 301 yards and a pair of touchdowns and added ten yards on the ground in a blowout win. While Wentz is on bye in Week 4, he faces a very weak Lions secondary in Week 5 that has been generous in terms of passing yards allowed in past weeks. As such, he may be worth the stash on your roster now if your starting quarterback has a bye in Week 5.
5. Trevor Siemian, Denver Broncos (6 percent owned) - now 20 percent owned
Over the first two weeks of the regular season the Broncos quarterback was believed to be nothing more than a game manager, relying on a dominant defense to win games. However, in Week 3 Siemian looked to embrace the deep ball to great success. Siemian threw for 312 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions, against a very good Bengals secondary. In Week 4 the Broncos face Tampa Bay, a team that defends the run much better than the pass, providing Siemian with another chance to shine.
Others over 50 percent: We are focusing primarily on players owned in fewer than 50 percent of leagues, but that is limited this week.
Tyrod Taylor, Buffalo Bills (68 percent owned)
Taylor threw for 119 yards and an interception in Week 3, but he added 76 yards and a touchdown on the ground. While his passing numbers may not be impressive thus far, Taylor’s fantasy potential remains fairly high if he is able to continue producing through his legs.
