The Philadelphia Eagles came out of Thursday Night Football with a 5-1 record after knocking off the Carolina Panthers 28-23. Carson Wentz continued his hot start with three touchdown passes, while Cam Newton threw three interceptions.
3 winners and 3 losers from the Eagles’ win over the Panthers
Carson Wentz and Co. are 5-1.

Unfortunately for Carolina, Luke Kuechly left the game late in the second quarter and was placed in concussion protocol. The Eagles were then able to pull away in the second half for the victory.
Here are the winners and losers from our sixth edition of Thursday Night Football in the 2017 NFL season.
Loser: Dad jokes
Tony Romo — to say the least — has been a gem in the broadcast booth. He’s given us intelligent insight, predictions, and more since he joined CBS after retiring from the NFL.
What we didn’t know, was that we’d get corny dad jokes:
Between plays, Romo joked, saying that Rick Lovato of the Eagles was married to Demi Lovato.
Jim Nantz followed up the joke with some discomfort, and said, “You know how many people just picked up their phone and started a Google search on Rick Lovato?”
Leave the jokes to the comedians, Tony. We like you for the broadcasting genius that you are. It’s more than enough.
Winner: Still having the sauce
Steve Smith does not care — he still thinks he can play with the best of them.
Before Thursday night’s game, he was asked who the best receiver on the field was. And well...
What else was Steve Smith, King of Trash Talking going to say? Of course he’s the best receiver on the field.
Winner: Funny cartoons
CBS showed a graphic during the game called “Tony’s Take” to give Romo’s takes on the game. Pretty cut and dry, right?
Nah. The cartoon of Romo to accompany his takes was pretty funny, and we came up with some memes to appropriately celebrate it.
Here’s the original image:
Here’s what we came up with in the process:
He’s the perfect frozen pizza logo:
He could also promote some basic math lessons:
Gotta let the viewers know when the latest sitcoms come on too:
And who needs Clippy when you have Tony Romo?
Cartoon Romo is our new favorite Romo.
Winner: Group celebrations
The Eagles blessed us with a home run celebration last week thanks to Nelson Agholor and Torrey Smith. It really was a work of art.
After an Agholor touchdown on Thursday night, he let center Jason Kelce get in on the fun, as the team gathered around for the spike:
Group celebrations are good. Do them more often, NFL teams.
The Eagles are doing a good job in catching up to the Lions for “team with the best group celebrations.” We might have to come up with a postseason award for this.
Loser: Being teased into something better
We really thought Newton was going to give us something here. He told Curtis Samuel and the rest of the Panthers offense to wait.
And then he just gave us his typical Superman touchdown:
Next time you’re going to break that wall and look into the camera, Cam, give us something more. The Superman celebration is fine, but the NFL eased up on its celebration rules this season.
Loser: When it’s not your fault
Newton threw three interceptions on the night.
This was one of them, and it really wasn’t his fault. Jonathan Stewart couldn’t come up with this pass that probably should have gone to Christian McCaffrey, and it ended up in the hands of the Eagles:
It wasn’t Newton’s best game, but it also wasn’t all his fault.
There’s always next week.
