Lady Gaga put on an epic halftime show -- she started by singing “God Bless America” on the roof and then she jumped off the roof. The show ended when she dropped the mic, caught a football, and fell out of sight. And Lady Gaga didn’t need help from any special guests, other than a circle piano.

She wants us to cut her some slack though, she is 64, after all.

Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime show was excellent. She turned doubters into believers with an energetic set of her biggest hits — but it was the beginning that contained the big message people were waiting for, and you might have missed it.
The opening of the halftime show began with “God Bless America” and quickly transitioned into “This Land is Your Land,” Woody Guthrie’s famous 1944 song which was quickly adopted by protesters following the inauguration of President Donald Trump after he signed an executive order banning travel from predominantly Muslim countries.

This year, Lady Gaga will perform at Super Bowl LI’s halftime show, but before she takes the stage, legendary crooner Tony Bennett will appear in a short video. Gaga has collaborated with Bennett on past projects.
They recorded their own version of “The Lady is a Tramp” in 2011. That song was on Bennett’s album Duets II. In 2014, Gaga and Bennett released an album called Cheek to Cheek, which won a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Album.

That’s because this is the first halftime show back in Houston since Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake’s, uh, wardrobe malfunction. It’s been 13 years since that fateful performance, but people don’t forget.

The six-time Grammy winner — and Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee -- has creatively caused chaos since emerging on the music scene several years ago. Whether it’s with her outfits, 8-inch heels or her provocative performances, there are many different words to describe Lady Gaga, but not one of them is “boring.”

Or maybe you are picturing her outrageous green dress comprised of the disembodied heads of Kermit the Frog. Regardless of what ridiculous outfit you associate with Gaga, you can’t say she’s uninteresting.
For a lot of people, people with whom I inherently disagree with and abhor, tuning into the Super Bowl on Sunday will be for one reason and one reason only: the halftime show. With Lady Gaga headlining the show this year, well, there are a Million Reasons to tune in.

When it comes to television ratings, nothing compares to the big game. And when you’ve got the biggest audience of the year sitting in front of their screens, you need the biggest star to keep people entertained at halftime.
The last seven Super Bowls have been the top seven most-watched programs in American television history. If you expand Nielsen’s list to a top 20, the only non-Super Bowl on there is the series finale of M*A*S*H. In 2015, the big game earned three times the viewers of the next closest non-football broadcast.

Photo by Maddie Meyer/Getty Images“Predictability” isn’t a word you’d usually associate with Lady Gaga — after all, she famously attended the MTV Video Music Awards in a meat dress, and arrived at the Grammys in an egg. That is, unless you’re referring to her performances, which are always great (go watch her sing the national anthem at last year’s Super Bowl as an example). Since she’s performing the Super Bowl halftime show this year, we might as well let our imaginations run wild and make some predictions on what she’ll sing.
Here’s what we know: Gaga will not have a guest singing with her during the show, although her good friend Tony Bennett will be part of a video countdown that introduces her. It’s a bummer, since we won’t get to see folks like Elton John and Beyonce — the latter sang with her on “Telephone,” and she’s generally welcome to sing on television by virtue of her being Beyonce. But since this is about song predictions, a focused set list sets us up nicely, and Lady Gaga has plenty of radio singles that could fit into a 12-minute performance.
