Emiliano Grillo launches club in a lake after putting 2 balls in water at Bay Hill

Grillo — on the rocks with a twist

Emiliano Grillo was still in contention, despite a tough start to his third round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, when a scuffle with the hazard on the sixth hole pretty much deep-sixed his chances for a second PGA Tour victory.

Last year’s Frys.com Open winner caromed two approach shots off the rocks and into the drink and then went all Rory-McIlroy-at-Doral with his 3-iron that obviously was the cause of the two splashdowns.

Grillo went on to two-putt the green for a quadruple-bogey-9 but bounced right back with a birdie-2 on the next hole to get back to 4-under and six shots back of Kevin Kisner’s pace. He’ll likely finish Saturday’s third round well back of the leaders and for sure down one 3-iron.

That sixth hole has gotten a ton of notoriety this week, what with Cody Gribble’s closeup with a lounging gator.

And then, of course, there was the reptile that scared the bejesus out of Smylie Kaufman.
