The Raiders can count on plenty of Oakland fans taking them up on the offer.

PHOENIX — The Oakland Raiders will officially become the Las Vegas Raiders ... eventually. While a 31-1 vote from NFL owners approved the relocation, the current plan for the team is to play in Oakland during the 2017, 2018, and maybe even 2019 seasons before the team’s shiny new stadium in Las Vegas is built.

That leaves a potentially awkward and contentious relationship with Raiders fans in Oakland, who will be asked to support a team that has already made up its mind to leave. Understandably, not all fans will be excited about continuing to support the team in its lame duck years.

Raiders owner Mark Davis extended an olive branch during his press conference announcing the move, telling reporters that fans who wish to be refunded for season tickets.

“If any of the fans that have given deposits for season tickets would like to refund them, we’d be happy to do that. Well not happy, but you know how that goes, but yes, absolutely,” Davis said.

The move from Oakland has been a seemingly forgone conclusion, but the announcement of a relocation will undoubtedly rile up plenty of fans in the Bay Area. And Davis can probably count on his offer of a refund being taken up by a good amount of Raiders fans.
