Cloud Computing was trained by Chad Brown, with jockey Javier Castellano guiding him. Cloud Computing paid $28.80 to win. Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming finished a disappointing eighth.
Always Dreaming and Classic Empire broke well and ran near side-by-side for much of the race, with Always Dreaming staying just ahead. Cloud Computing and Term of Art chased. Classic Empire made his move with a little more than a quarter-mile to go and led by three lengths down the back stretch. Cloud Computing, however, caught him down the stretch and won by about a head in the end.
Always Dreaming was named a 4-5 morning line favorite and sat at 6-5 shortly before the running of the Preakness. Chief rival Classic Empire started the day at 3-1 and moved up to 2-1 as the day progressed. Kentucky Derby runner-up Lookin at Lee was another popular pick at 9-1.
The third jewel of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes is set for June 10 in New York.
