Classic Empire is the favorite to win the 2017 Kentucky Derby, which is the biggest race of the season — at least until a horse manages to win it, then a Triple Crown is in play and all bets are off. For now, Classic Empire is the horse most expected to find victory in the Derby on Saturday.

A full day of races begins at noon ET, with television coverage available via NBCSN. That will run through 2:30 p.m., at which point NBC proper will take over coverage through the Derby, which has a post time of 6:46 p.m. An online stream of the race will be available via NBC Sports Live and will consist of both undercard coverage and the Derby itself.

Classic Empire has been the favorite on most books for the past week, but many experts have been split on which horse will reign supreme on Saturday. Always Dreaming and McCraken have consistently been a favorite pick of experts. McCraken is one of the most popular picks out there.

Everything you need to know about horse racing’s biggest achievement, and why we still care so much about one of the rarest feats in sports.

At the time of writing, McCraken’s odds were 6-1, with Classic Empire sitting at 7-1 and Irish War Cry at 5-1. Classic Empire is the favorite largely due to his success in grueling races in the past. His late charge to hold off competition in the Breeders’ Cup juvenile was a classic race.

He will be jockeyed by Julien Leparoux, and is trained by Mark Casse. He looked good in the Arkansas Derby in April despite an abscess forming on his foot. He drew the 14th gate for the Kentucky Derby, the $2 million, 1-1/4 mile Run for the Roses.

Below is all you need to know to watch Saturday’s action and below that is a table featuring all the post positions, contenders, trainers, jockeys and the morning line odds.
