When most of us think of the Kentucky Derby, we think of the “fastest two minutes in sports” or the “Run for the Roses.” Post time of the race doesn’t happen until Saturday evening, but it is a full day at Churchill Downs with many other races taking place leading up to the 143rd Kentucky Derby.
Kentucky Derby 2017 weather forecast: Should be dry by Saturday afternoon
Saturday may start wet for the Kentucky Derby, but weather improves by the afternoon.

The first race of the day starts at 10:30 a.m. ET with the main event going off around 6:46 p.m. The best chance for rain is during the morning. Rain amounts aren’t expected to be heavy, so the track shouldn’t get too muddy. By afternoon, the threat of rain diminishes and by post time, the sun may be peaking out behind the clouds.
It will be unseasonably cool for May in Kentucky as temperatures will remain mostly in the 50s. Winds will be out of the north between five to 10 mph.
